The yearly Sewing & Quilt Expo was once again held at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel. Whenever possible my mom, sister, and I try to go together. It’s the one time a year that the three of us get along the best– –crafting and sewing together. This year my niece was finally old enough to join us. 3 generations sewing together. It was wonderful!

We took two hands-on classes. Friday night was hand-dyed scarves and Saturday morning we made bags.

The Bag we made in our class.

My niece also entered the Sewing’s Next Generation Youth Show. We got the idea for her outfit from Ashley’s Make It & Love It blog.  Unfortunately she did not win. However it was her first time sewing so we have high hopes for next year. = )

The skirt and purse my niece made. It was her very first time sewing.

Besides the two classes we did two Make ‘n Take It crafts at vendor booths:

I bejeweled this scarf.

I hand-sewed this coin purse.

It was a wonderful time and I took an absolute ton of photos!  There were so many beautiful fabrics, notions, machines, quilts, etc. Below are a few highlights.

Artists from around the country reused, recycled, and reclaimed materials to create a garment for a small dress form. Artist incorporated at least 80% of their materials from recycled goods, and a limit of $20 could be used to purchase supplies.

A close up of my favorite quilt there: Koi Dragon by Dustin Farrell.

"According to Japanese legend if a koi succeeds in climbing into the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it will be transformed into a dragon." It took 125 hours of quilting, there are 52 different threads in the piece both variegated and solids.
